PRACTICE AREAS >> TRUSTS AND ESTATES

Baker Williams Matthiesen provides a full range of estate planning and estate administration services. We understand the sensitive and personal nature of the issues involved in these matters and are able to counsel and assist our clients in formulating plans to achieve their goals in a tax efficient manner amid complex and changing federal transfer tax (gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer) laws.

ESTATE PLANNING

The Trusts and Estates Practice assists clients in all types of estate planning involving lifetime planning (such as premarital and marital agreements), lifetime giving and testamentary dispositions. Planning of this type ranges from more traditional planning techniques such as wills, revocable trusts, and powers of attorney to more advanced techniques such as irrevocable trusts (including life insurance, dynasty and generation-skipping transfer trusts), family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts, and sales to defective grantor trusts.

ADMINISTRATION OF ESTATES AND TRUSTS

Baker Williams Matthiesen also represents executors, trustees, and beneficiaries in matters involving non-contested probate, estates and trusts. Representation of executors ranges from the preparation of probate documents and appearing with the executor in probate court to advising on legal estate administration issues including transfer tax issues associated with the administration of larger estates. The firm also represents trusts and their trustees by providing guidance to the trustee in the administration of a trust estate.
